Jana Bieger

2006 Gymnastics World Championships All-Around Silver Medalist

About Jana:
Seventeen year old Jana Bieger was born on November 12, 1989 in Kiel, Germany. As a
daughter of a legendary West German gymnast who competed in three Olympics, Jana
has started very early her first lessons playing around in the gym and on the equipment,
when she was 2 years old.

At age 7 she started gymnastics in Florida, where she began to climb with her mom as her
coach through the competitive ranks.

As a level 9 gymnast in 2000, Jana first earned national-level recognition by winning the all-around at the level 9 Nationals. The next year, as a level 10, Jana placed fourth in the all-around at the level 10 Junior Olympic Nationals and made the Junior Olympic National team. Throughout most of 2002, Jana continued to perform well at level 10, winning almost every title at her level.
In early 2003, Jana finally reached the highest competitive level in gymnastics – Elite. Her first major national meet at the Elite level was the 2003 U.S. Classic, where she placed fourth in the all-around. Her performance at the 2003 US Classic turned a lot of heads in the gymnastics community. Although she only finished 15th at her first elite National Championships, she came back strong this past season to clinch the all-around bronze medal at the 2004 National Championships.

The 2004 season has proven to be Jana’s best yet as she competed at her first two international competitions, the Olympiada in Mexico and the Pacific Alliance Cup in Hawaii. At the 2004 U.S. Classic, Jana won the all-around at the Team Cup, beating many gymnasts who were much older and more experienced. She has placed first on the vault at every meet she’s competed in this past year.

2005:

After having been injured in October 2004 (Patella dislocation with knee surgery) Jana has come back already in the beginning of 2005. She started her competitive season in March with a two week European Tour to the UK and Switzerland.

Being very solid at the Classics (2nd Place) in July, she finished the National Championships with the third place All-Around, 3rd on Vault and Bars, and 2nd at Beam.
In October she was a member of the Pan American Team in Rio de Janeiro and got the silver medal on Vault and Bronze on Floor.

After a tough qualification in November, Jana was named a member of the US World Champion Team in Australia. There she finished on Bars as the 5th best gymnast in this world.

2006:

Jana started with new routines under a new regiment and judges’ system in her first World Cup competition at Cottbus, Germany. She won 1st place in Vault, placed 3rd on Bars, and 2nd on Beam.
In April she made the US Pacific Alliance team (consisting of 4 senior members only). She won the All-Around Gold with the US team and scored the third highest points as individual all-round. In the event finals she won Gold at both the Vault and Floor.

In August Jana was very solid and consistent at the National Visa Championships in St. Paul and finished as third the All Around , second on Vault, forth on bars, third on Beam and forth on Floor.
After two following selection camps and competitions, Jana was selected for the World Championship Team 2006 in Aarhus, Denmark.

After finishing with a Silver medal at the team competition, Jana added a Silver medal in the All Around and on floor and was the most successful girl on the US team.

A week later Jana finished her successful year with 2 more gold medals (bars and floor) at the World Cup in Stuttgart.
